experiencing the most profound changes in their hearts, minds and bodies that they will ever experience. They travel through
their adolescent years without the support from their faith community, which promised to care for that child at their Baptism.
Good Shepherd has been using the Journey to Adulthood for the past several years. We have developed a meaningful
program of faith formation. Journey to Adulthood, a proven curriculum used for the past several years, involves the central
concepts of Self, Spirituality, Society and Sexuality. Your child will experience a true sense of community and belonging through
service projects, pilgrimages, urban survivals, mission trips, alternative worship and play. Christian formation does not stop at
5th grade, nor is confirmation a graduation from church. Youth Group will equip your adolescents with the skills needed to
navigate their ever expanding world, now and for years to come.
RITE 13 - THE NEXT STEP
Rite 13 is the next step from traditional Sunday School as we know it. Designed for youth between the ages of 11 and 13, this
program is fun. We play games, laugh and learn. Time is devoted to the sacred stories of Holy Scripture with relevant
application to situations and experiences young people face every day. Some of the topics covered are prayer, how we see
and encounter God, possessions and their importance in our lives, and trust in God on this faith journey. Every effort is made
to keep the process experiential with a hands-on focus. Activities are geared to build community, establish trust and safety, and
remind young people again and again that this is their church and they are safe and welcome within it.
Rite 13 meets on Wednesday nights, August through early June, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the middle school youth
room. All youth in 6th through 8th grades are welcome.
JOURNEY TO ADULTHOOD – THE HIGH SCHOOL YEARS
The High School years of Journey to Adulthood, J2A and YAC (Young Adults in Church) are designed for youth in 9th - 12th
grades. This program is devoted to leadership, giving back to the community and ownership of the journey. Experiential by
design, J2A and YAC include hands-on work, planning and implementing of the curriculum. Most of the activities are geared
toward community building and direct community service, with Holy Scripture as a basis for experiential process and its
application to the lives of young adults.
The J2A and YAC groups meet on Wednesday nights, August through early June, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. All youth in 9th
through 12th grades are welcome to join the high school program.
